High-quality Dentures in Edinburgh

While not the right solution for every patient, dentures are still a viable and popular option for many, providing a convenient and trusted dental solution for replacing missing teeth.

Dentures are an excellent solution for replacing multiple missing teeth that are spread out across the mouth. Unlike dental bridges that only fill one gap, dentures can conveniently fill multiple gaps left by missing teeth.

In addition, dentures do not require invasive surgery and are far more cost-effective than dental implants, with basic dentures being fully available on the NHS.

What are dentures and how do they work?

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth. Although commonly thought of as a solution for older patients, modern dentures are sleek, comfortable and discreet, making them an attractive solution for patients of all ages suffering from missing teeth.

Dentures can be made from various materials including nylon, acrylic or metal. They are convenient, durable and help patients restore confidence in their smiles. In general, dentures should be worn throughout the day and then removed at night to relieve pressure on your gums.

When it comes to types of dentures, patients have the options of:

  • A partial denture – used to replace just a few missing teeth
  • Complete dentures – used to replace a whole arch

Denture options at Stuart Steven Dental Practice

There are a few different options when it comes to receiving dentures at our Edinburgh dental practice:

Immediate dentures can be made for patients who require a tooth extraction and want to fill the space straight away.

For patients that are having permanent dentures fitted, they will have four different appointments that align with the four stages that are needed for making dentures. Each appointment will generally be about ten days apart due to the laboratory work involved.

Most patients should visit the dentist every 6 months.
However, depending on your oral health, your dentist may recommend more frequent appointments—such as every 3–9 months—to monitor specific conditions like gum disease or tooth wear.

Regular visits help detect issues early, keep your teeth and gums healthy, and reduce the need for more complex treatment.

Your first appointment usually includes:

  1. A full oral health assessment
We examine your teeth, gums, soft tissues, bite, and existing dental work.

  2. X‑rays (if needed)
These help us see areas not visible during a visual exam.

  3. Discussion of any concerns
Pain, sensitivity, cosmetic goals—anything you’d like us to focus on.

  4. Personalised treatment plan
We explain any recommended treatments, costs, and next steps.

  5. A hygiene assessment
We’ll advise on cleaning techniques and may book a hygiene visit if required.
